Torvalds ist der Initiator sowie die treibende Kraft bei der Entwi-cklung des Linux-Kernels, dessen Entwicklung er bis heute koordiniert.

Linux ist heute die meist eingesetzte Betriebssystem der Welt bei stationären Computer.

Außerdem ist er der Erfinder des Versionsverwaltungssystems Git.
